Welcome to the January Clearance Sourcing Challenge — your mission (should you choose to accept it):
Find 5 underpriced gems this month and flip them for maximum profit.

Let’s break down how to win this challenge, what to look for, and how to turn January markdowns into February money.

Know Where to Hunt

January is flooded with deals, but some places hit harder than others. Don’t skip:

🏷️ Retail Clearance Aisles

  • Check your favorite stores to see what they have marked down

  • Kohl’s winter markdowns

  • Old Navy, Gap, J. Crew seasonal clear-out

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods, Columbia, The North Face, Duluth 

Retail arbitrage in January = chef’s kiss for the next season!

🛒 Thrift Stores

Everyone donates after the holidays. You’ll see:

  • Fresh winter coats

  • Boots

  • Designer denim

  • High-end sweaters

  • Holiday returns

Look for carts rolling out — these are GOLD.

📦 Outlet Stores - We live very close to one, and I always check them out, after season clearance is the best!

Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Columbia, and other outlet stores often mark winter pieces WAY down the first two weeks of January.

What to Look For (Your Gem Checklist)

To win the challenge, your goal is to find items that are:

Kids’ Winter Gear

Snowsuits, snow boots, coats — parents love buying secondhand after holiday budgets.

How to Spot an Underpriced Gem

Here’s the formula:

High retail △ + High sell-through △ + Low shelf price = BUY

Before you grab it:

  • Check sold comps on Poshmark/eBay

  • Check the condition

  • Check fabric tags

  • Make sure the size is desirable

If it sells above $25 and costs under $7, it’s a gem.
If it sells above $40 and costs under $10, it’s a WIN.
If it sells above $75 and costs under $15, it’s a January jackpot.

How to Track Your 5 Finds
